I have always been drawn to architecture, more deeply how human made shapes and patterns determine the face of the city, how different times are represented differently, how we as humans have created our own ‘nature’. From the simplest combination of two bricks, a pattern arises, a pattern that reflects a conscious decision to mould the city into something new.
In this series of photography, I explore the contrasts, shapes and patterns that arise in the cityscape. The photographs capture the minimalism of modern architecture by presenting its patterns and contrasts in a very stripped form. But although the series may be minimalistic, it is not simple. It is important to realise that those two terms are not interchangeable.
This exhibition is not just an exploration of the city but getting here was also an exploration of my own relationship with the city. Before embarking on this journey, I had viewed city as a product of its inhabitants, that the people alone are the face of the city. But this perspective had led me to ignore that the inhabitants of the city are present elsewhere, not just in their own physical body.
