In my photographic series “Dreamscapes” I explore how the cityscape has changed due to unforeseen circumstances posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. For me, reality — with its newly introduced social distancing orders, blue latex gloves and deserted neighbourhoods — has felt almost dreamlike recently. In a way, the series is an exploration of the mystical, mental side of existing in the city in a novel way.

In Dreamscapes, the viewer travels through a feverish dream sequence filled with hazy, purple hues and seemingly random, wandering thoughts. In dreams, we constantly experience familiar things and spaces in an altered, slightly surreal light. It also doesn’t matter if the stories our unconscious brains come up with make any sense.

But how should we react when these feelings of blurred familiarity and illogical narratives seep into our daily lives? When it’s not just the stuff of dreams or nightmares?
