A Small City in My Room

Concept: Focusing on the replaced urban functions in my room due to Coronavirus and visualize it with short description.

“City” does not mean only the visible form of buildings and architecture, but also contains the invisible functions.

Now, the borders are closed, the city is no longer functioning, people around the world are scared of the coronavirus and we are forced to stay at home. At the same time, functions in the city such as university, public facilities and other stores have been replaced with small elements in our house. In other words, now we are living in a small city in our rooms.

In this time, what I am trying to capture is “a small city” in my room. For example, the sun in the outside world is replaced by candlelight in my room, and instead of going to a cafe or restaurant, I open the refrigerator for cooking. Also, saunas, which used to heat people in the city, are replaced by microwaves to heat food. In this way, the invisible functions of the city are still existing, even as they are transformed into small elements in my room.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to take pictures of the current city of Helsinki, but I’m trying to show the current really unusual situation of the city and the world through these photographs.
